In 2020 we completed the 7th and final round of rockfall protection work on the Johnsonville line between tunnels 1&2 for Kiwirail.
Our first project here was in 2010 and since then we have built 5 active mesh drapes and 2 monitored rockfall alert fences. Each project requires the team to work directly above the active commuter line.
Pressure on!
The team had to drill 70 anchors into loose rock without hitting the trains that pass through every 10 minutes. The last 3 active drapes have all utilised GRP corrosion proof bars and Geofabrics mesh with the latest PVC galmac coating for minimal future maintenance.
